Thriller Motion Capture Short Film
2024 | Group Project
This story is set in a dimly lit cafeteria of Horizon Station and begins with a frightened worker who realises they are not alone and are thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse to survive. The silence of the cafeteria is suddenly disrupted by an alien entity with primal movements and keen senses. The worker, panicked and whispering to themselves, tries their best to remain calm while seeking refuge among the shadows. As they desperately try to stay unnoticed, something attracts the alien's attention…
In this project, our team integrated motion capture and real-time rendering technologies into filmmaking. Using OptiTrack, we captured body movements, recorded animations, and cleaned motion data with Motive and Motion Builder. We also used the Face Builder plugin in Blender alongside MetaHuman Creator in Unreal Engine to create detailed head models. Real-time visualization and photorealistic rendering were performed in Unreal Engine to complete the film.
In this project, I was responsible for on-site motion capture and recording using OptiTrack, as well as performing rough data cleaning in Motive. I worked directly with the actors, assisting them with wearing the suits and positioning the markers, and guided them in their body movements to convey the necessary tension and realism required for the film. Additionally, I created 3D head models for the worker character using Blender based on 2D images of the real actor.
